BURSTPHONIC PAF by OctaKing is a pending patented, first-of-its-kind premium pedal and the inaugural flagship release from the OctaKing team. This is not a reinterpretation, clone, or variation of anything that came before—it is an entirely new category of analog tone architecture, engineered from the ground up.
Designed to authentically capture the soul of the most revered electric guitars ever built, Burstphonic PAF is inspired by the 1959 Gibson Factory Black Burst and Joe Bonamassa’s legendary ’59 “Holy Grail” Les Paul. The objective was uncompromising: replicate not just the pickup, but the entire instrument behavior—the body interaction, the microphonic response of unwaxed PAFs, and the harmonic complexity that defines a true 1959 Burst.
At its core, Burstphonic PAF is built around a proprietary, ground-up OctaKing op-amp, engineered in-house and unavailable anywhere else. Select internal components—some shared with original 1959 Gibson Burst electronics—are combined with 24k gold elements, a custom transformer, and a fully analog signal path. The internal topology and components are deliberately undisclosed; the circuit architecture remains strictly confidential by design.
Key Technology & Features
-
Patented Analog Design
A completely original circuit that cannot be replicated or reverse-engineered using conventional designs. -
Transformer-Based Guitar Profiling
A dedicated transformer dynamically switches between STRAT and LP modes, adapting the pedal’s internal behavior to single-coil or humbucker guitars with absolute authenticity. -
Hidden Internal Controls
Precision-tuned internal parameters, including a MID / 1.2 kHz shaping circuit, allow exact harmonic voicing consistent with vintage PAF resonance. -
Out-of-Phase Engine (Never Done Before)
A true analog Out-of-Phase circuit inside a pedal. The input signal is split, phase-shifted, and recombined into a mono output—delivering the unmistakable “Greeny / Gary Moore” tone without modifying your guitar or wiring. -
Microphonic PAF Emulation
Faithfully recreates the airy, vocal, unwaxed PAF response—dynamic, touch-sensitive, and alive. -
Universal Compatibility
Designed to work with any guitar:-
Single-coils, P90s, dogears, Strat-style pickups
-
Humbuckers of any type, from budget pickups to genuine Burst PAFs
-
Can even be used with real PAFs to enhance harmonic highs and tonal color
- (THIS IS PROTOTYPE INFO, IT DIFFERS FROM THE FINAL PRODUCT)
-
Signal Placement & Use
Burstphonic PAF integrates seamlessly into any professional rig:
-
Place it after your tuner in the signal chain, or
-
Run it in the effects loop of your amplifier after all other pedals
The pedal features standard Input / Output configuration and is optimized for studio-grade signal integrity with zero digital processing.
The Result
Burstphonic PAF does not model a pickup—it becomes the guitar.
The compression behavior, harmonic bloom, phase interaction, and frequency response align to produce a 1:1 analog recreation of a 1959 Burst experience, delivered through a pedalboard format.
This is boutique engineering at its most uncompromising.
No limits. No compromise.
Description
BURSTPHONIC PAF by OctaKing is a pending-patent, first-of-its-kind premium analog pedal and the inaugural flagship release from the OctaKing team. It is not a clone, reinterpretation, emulation, or modification of any existing design—it introduces an entirely new category of analog tone architecture developed from the ground up.
Inspired by the legendary response and harmonic identity of the most revered late-1950s electric guitars ever produced—including the iconic 1959 Black Burst platform and the celebrated “Holy Grail” Les Paul associated with Joe Bonamassa—Burstphonic PAF was engineered with a singular objective:
To recreate not just the sound of a vintage PAF-equipped instrument, but the complete physical and harmonic behavior of the guitar itself “Enhancer”.
This includes:
- Body resonance interaction
- Dynamic harmonic bloom
- Touch-sensitive compression
- Airy, vocal unwaxed PAF character
- Organic phase behavior and microphonic response
Every aspect of the circuit was developed as a fully analog platform designed to respond like a living instrument rather than a conventional effects pedal.
Core Analog Architecture
At the center of Burstphonic PAF is a completely original analog topology engineered exclusively for this platform. The internal signal architecture utilizes carefully selected premium-grade analog components, custom-engineered circuitry, and a proprietary transformer-based interaction stage designed specifically for dynamic guitar response reproduction.
The circuit structure, voicing methods, and internal architecture remain confidential by design as part of the product’s pending patent process.
No digital processing, impulse responses, modeling, DSP, or software algorithms are used anywhere in the signal path.
Key Technology & Features
Pending-Patent Analog Design
A fully original analog circuit architecture introducing a new approach to guitar harmonic interaction and instrument-response recreation.
Transformer-Based Guitar Profiling
A dedicated analog transformer stage dynamically adapts the pedal’s internal response between single-coil and humbucker platforms, allowing authentic interaction with:
- Strat-style pickups
- P90s and dogears
- Vintage and modern humbuckers
- Low-output or high-output pickup systems
The pedal reacts organically to the guitar connected to it, preserving identity while reshaping harmonic structure and feel.
Precision Internal Harmonic Voicing
Hidden internal calibration controls allow fine harmonic contouring and resonance tuning, including a dedicated 1.2 kHz midrange shaping stage developed to emulate the vocal response associated with vintage late-1950s PAF instruments.
True Analog Out-of-Phase Engine
An entirely original analog phase interaction circuit built directly into the pedal.
The incoming signal is split, phase-manipulated, and recombined into a mono output path to produce the unmistakable hollow, vocal out-of-phase character associated with legendary vintage “Greeny”-style tones—without requiring guitar modifications, rewiring, or specialized pickups.
Microphonic PAF Behavior Emulation
Burstphonic PAF recreates the lively, touch-sensitive response of unwaxed vintage pickups with exceptional dynamic sensitivity, harmonic air, and natural feedback interaction.
Universal Guitar Compatibility
Designed to integrate seamlessly with virtually any electric guitar platform while maintaining authentic analog responsiveness.
Signal Placement & Integration
Burstphonic PAF is optimized for professional studio and live environments and can be integrated in multiple ways:
- Directly after the tuner at the front of the signal chain
- Inside an amplifier effects loop after other pedals
- As a standalone harmonic enhancement stage
Standard Input / Output configuration ensures compatibility with modern professional rigs while maintaining uncompromising analog signal integrity.
The Result
Burstphonic PAF does not attempt to imitate a pickup.
It recreates the harmonic behavior, compression response, resonance interaction, and dynamic feel associated with an iconic late-1950s instrument platform—inside a fully analog pedal format.
This is not an effect.
It is a new analog instrument-response system.
Pending Patent.
Designed without compromise.

This pedal is absolutely INSANE! At first, I couldn’t even wrap my head around what it was doing. But the second I started clicking it on and off? Damn. Turning it off makes my guitar sound like a tiny ukulele. I can’t go back. Just WOW.
